Small Parts (2015-2017)

Small Parts is a series of moments documented on iPhone that represent some of the experiences that have shaped me. They were taken at a time in my life when I was learning to find the home within myself in an ever-shifting physical and psychological landscape. I was travelling without a (professional) camera, and so the series also explores the act of creating with what’s available, outside of traditional ideas of quality.

The name comes from a poem that I wrote while living on Cortes Island, in November of 2016:

I’m all small parts
static electricity in a cloud
humming and ringing
The smell of gasoline lingering
in the car the colour
of a sand dune after rain
Breaks easily, but so’s the fix
for any kind of mechanical issue.
I could get rolling again soon
I’m just no mechanic
